She has kept busy during quarantine with livestreaming gigs, a charity single and helping to organise the Lockdown Music Festival. Backed by the excellent players of The Midnight Band, who approached Bailey for this collaboration, she brings the 1970 soulful classic right up-to-date. The video for ‘Woman Like Me’ gives us a glimpse of the work that goes on in the studio and the quality of the musicianship that drives the song. The line-up includes Joe Wilkins on guitar, Jonny Henderson on organ, Matthew Waer on bas, Matthew Jones on drums and Tania Hancheroff providing backing vocals. They combine well to support Bailey’s distinctive smoky voice with a full classic, bluesy sound. Bailey goes from strength to strength and there have now been over 2,000,000 streams of her song ‘Road I Call Home’. Look out for her rescheduled tour dates in the autumn.
One of the hottest, but still most satisfying, days spent by Americana UK last summer was at the inaugural Over the Hill festival in Witney, Oxfordshire, so it’s gratifying to see the festival mark II return for the August Bank Holiday this year.
