Jerron Paxton will transport you back in time with his wonderful performance of “What’s Gonna Become of Me” from Later…With Jools Holland.  Paxton’s mesmerising, fast-fingered banjo playing is brilliantly rhythmic.  Over the banjo, his rich voice is perfect for storytelling.  Indeed, it’s amazing how Paxton can captivate with just his voice and a single instrument and it’s a joy seeing a performer so lost in their music.

The single features on “Things Done Changed”, the brand new album from Paxton.   This collection of original songs is inspired by the history of Black American traditional music and his writing and performance are right out of the distant past.  During his childhood in South Central Los Angeles, Paxton immersed himself in traditional styles of music that connected him to his ancestral roots in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Paxton explains: “I write and sing about the culture I come from.  It seems a bit neglected.  ‘Things Done Changed’ is my way of honouring the culture I come from.  I grew up playing for the last generation of folks who grew up listening to black banjo players…Born from the lives of the people who raised me, I hope these songs resonate with listeners as a continuation of our shared history.”

A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Paxton can play guitar, banjo, piano, bones and harmonica and he delivers great performances throughout the album.  Look out for Paxton on his tour of the UK in 2025, including a date at Union Chapel on 15th May – get your tickets here.  Enjoy.
