South Carolina singer-songwriter Taylor McCall has released a video to coincide with his new album. ‘Rolling Stoned Again’ features a strong tune with a compelling chorus, driven forward by a powerful beat. McCall’s words are intriguing: “Tell me revelator // Why do I exist // If God is my witness // I hate He’s seein’ me like this,” delivered in his distinctive voice, weary and full of character.
The single is from McCall’s second album, ‘Mellow War’, which is out now. The new album was inspired by McCall’s grandfather as he explains: “‘Mellow War’ pays homage to my late grandpa. The album cover is him in Vietnam. These are songs that are sort of letters to home that I imagined he might have sent. My grandpa was a life inspiration for me; it was bigger than just music. The songs are a tribute to everything he stood for and everything he taught me.” It is, indeed, a tribute that would make him proud. The new material follows 2021’s well-received ‘Black Powder Soul’ and offers an engaging blend of blues and Americana.
Look out for McCall on tour soon – he’ll be supporting Robert Plant presents Saving Grace for a series of shows across the UK in March. In the meantime, play this on repeat.
