Begin your week with this atmospheric video from The Americans. It’s a cover of Joanna Newsom’s ‘You Will Not Take My Heart Alive’ but the band very much make it their own. Guitarist and singer, Patrick Ferris, says of the song: “Joanna Newsom’s songs are like once-forgotten dreams, recalled suddenly with staggering impact. She ought to be credited as the greatest songwriter of her generation.” Beautifully put. The Americans are a tight, rootsy rock band, also featuring Zac Sokolow (guitar), Jake Faulkner (bass) and Tim Carr (drums, keyboard). Look out for an as yet unnamed new album from the Los Angeles rockers this summer on Loose; it will be the long-awaited, pandemic-disrupted follow-up to ‘I’ll Be Yours’, their acclaimed 2017 debut album.
